Goal: $30,000.00
Specific Need
“What light through yonder window breaks…” Wm Shakespeare
Have you visited Wamego Public Library lately?
It may not jump out at you because of the open feeling, the cozy meeting and reading nooks, and even the “new smell,” but…
One of the things that did not fit into the scope of the renovation project is new windows for the original portion of the building. These were last replaced in 1973. The gains in window efficiency and comfort over the past 50 years are surely huge!
Would you help us update this important piece of the Library? We’d love to update our windows and pass on the energy efficiency, soundproofing, and improved curb appeal to our patrons and our community.
Your donation toward our $30,000 goal will be used to replace our drafty, 50-year-old single-pane windows with sealed, efficient new ones.
Thank you for your support!Mission
The Wamego Public Library enriches lives, promotes literacy and builds community by bringing together people, information and ideas.
Profile
In 1937 the dream of a library began in Wamego. That vision has continued to grow over the years, from the original location above First National Bank in 1939 to various locations along Lincoln.
Wamego Public Library landed in its first official home in 1957 on Elm Street, the location of the current police station. It remained there until 2002 when Kaw Valley State Bank generously gifted the current building on the corner of 5th and Lincoln.
With the growth of Wamego and the surrounding community, it became evident over a decade ago that the Library would need more space. Over the past two years, the renovation and expansion project has nearly doubled our square footage, with an abundance of room for people and materials. This amazing community has raised over three million dollars through grants, donations, pledges, and capital improvement funds, including 1.5 million dollars allocated by the City of Wamego.
The dream that began over eight decades ago is alive and well as we, the Wamego community, set our sights toward the next eighty years. No matter the era—or the location—the Library has been a vibrant part of the Wamego community.
Thank you for supporting the Wamego Public Library!
