Flint Hills Messiah Chorus

Goal: $3,000.00

Specific Need

The choir members seek to raise funds each year to pay the musicians of a 21-piece chamber orchestra.

Mission

The Flint Hills Messiah Chorus seeks to provide an opportunity for people to come together to perform an annual concert of George Frideric Handel’s The Messiah accompanied by a chamber orchestra during the Easter season in Wamego, KS.

Profile

The Flint Hills Messiah Chorus, which began in 1990, is comprised of an all-volunteer choir of people from the Pottawatomie, Wabaunsee, Riley and Shawnee counties. In 1998, a chamber orchestra was added to the performance. In order to have an orchestra, the choir members seek to raise funds each year to pay the musicians of this 21-piece chamber orchestra.  The Flint Hills Messiah Chorus is a 501(c)3 organization.  All donations are tax-deductible.

Choir Director, Christine Day, has a degree in Music Performance and Education from Iowa State University.  Orchestra Director, Phillip Payne, is a Professor and the Chair of Music Education at Kansas State University.

The Trustees of the Wamego First United Methodist Church allow us to hold our choir rehearsals there free of charge.  Choir rehearsals are usually held on most Sundays of each month beginning in January.  The Wamego United Methodist Church also lets us perform our annual concert there.  The annual performance date is generally on Psalm Sunday. Admission to the concert is $10.00.

Everyone is welcome to become a member of the Flint Hills Messiah Chorus.
